    Introduction to Brass:

    Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. Zinc as the main additive element has a beautiful yellow color. Copper zinc binary alloy called common brass or simple brass.  Ternary above the brass says special brass or say complex brass.

    Brass is divided into three types due to different zinc content:

    The brass alloy containing less than 36% zinc is composed of solid solution and has good cold working performance.

    Zinc 30% brass commonly used to make shell cases, commonly known as shell brass or 73 brass.

    The brass alloy containing zinc between 36-42% is composed of solid solution, 40% zinc brass is most commonly used which known as 64 brass;

    In order to improve the performance of ordinary brass, other elements such as aluminum, nickel, manganese, tin, silicon and lead are often added.

    1. Aluminum can improve the strength, hardness and corrosion resistance of brass, but the plasticity is reduced, which is suitable for ocean condensate pipe and other corrosion resistant parts.

    2. Tin can improve the strength of brass and corrosion resistance to sea water, so called naval brass, used for ship thermal equipment and propellers, etc.

    3. Lead can improve the cutting performance of brass; This free-cutting brass is often used for clock parts. Brass castings are commonly used to make valves and pipe fittings.
